The Seaside United Church of Christ in Northeast Harbor reached out to Amorphous Studio to update an existing public space adjacent to the church, making it more accessible for visitors while creating a welcoming area for gatherings, teaching, and education. The low-impact design was essential to preserving the historic character of the site while minimizing construction timelines and disturbances. The plan centered around a flexible gathering space with a walkable labyrinth paving pattern, with access to a nearby fountain and ADA-compliant pathways connecting to the church and the surrounding town. While the path and main gathering space was installed in the fall of 2023, the labyrinth pavers will be phased in at a later date.
